Ketamine treatment
Ketamine has been studied for treatment-resistant depression. A 2023 randomized trial compared IV ketamine with ECT in adults with nonpsychotic treatment-resistant major depression; its findings do not apply automatically to psychotic depression, every patient or every route. FDA-approved Spravato is esketamine, a different medication and administration program.

Situated in Broward County, Hollywood is a prominent city in South Florida located strategically between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. For residents dealing with treatment-resistant mental health conditions, understanding the local landscape for therapies like ketamine and Spravato is an important step in navigating psychiatric care.
While the directory does not highlight clinics physically located within Hollywood itself, patients have access to several nearby offices in the surrounding South Florida metropolitan area. Just to the north, One Mind Wellness & Ketamine in Fort Lauderdale describes ketamine infusion services. To the south, Ketamine Health Centers in Miami also describes ketamine infusion services. These regional clinics offer options for residents willing to travel short distances across Broward or Miami-Dade counties to receive specialized psychiatric care.
Because ketamine therapies require ongoing assessment and a series of visits, choosing a clinic often depends on logistical convenience as much as clinical offerings. Patients should collaborate with their existing healthcare providers to discuss if these advanced treatments are appropriate for their specific medical history. A comprehensive evaluation is typically necessary before a clinic will accept a new patient. If you are researching options across the broader region, you may also find our guides for Plantation or Wellington helpful. Always reach out directly to the respective clinics to confirm their current services, verify eligibility requirements, and understand their intake procedures before making medical decisions.

Treatments utilizing intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM), or compounded sublingual ketamine are provided off-label for psychiatric conditions like severe depression. Because these administration methods lack specific FDA approval for mental health disorders, they are rarely covered by standard insurance policies. Patients evaluating clinics in the Fort Lauderdale or Miami areas should anticipate that these services will be largely self-pay. Additionally, patients should budget for transit costs, as treatment protocols involve repeated sessions. It is also important to recognize the safety profile of these medications; the FDA outlines specific concerns on their page: FDA warns patients and health care providers about potential risks associated with compounded ketamine products.
Unlike off-label ketamine, Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray designed for adults with treatment-resistant depression or major depressive disorder with acute suicidal ideation or behavior. Consequently, it is frequently eligible for insurance coverage. However, coverage policies differ widely, and prior authorization is typically mandated by insurers. Patients in Hollywood should ask prospective clinics for a detailed, written estimate outlining all potential out-of-pocket costs—including initial consultations, the medication itself, and mandatory clinical observation hours—prior to committing to a treatment plan.
Receiving Spravato requires strict adherence to safety protocols. It must be administered in a medically certified setting, followed by a minimum of two hours of clinical observation to monitor for adverse reactions like sedation or blood pressure spikes. Patients cannot drive until the next day after a restful sleep, meaning a responsible adult must be arranged to provide transportation back to Hollywood. When traveling to clinics in Miami or Fort Lauderdale, heavy South Florida traffic along I-95 or Florida's Turnpike, as well as afternoon thunderstorms or hurricane-season weather, should be factored into your scheduling to ensure you arrive safely and on time.
Telehealth platforms may be utilized for psychiatric evaluations or ongoing therapy, but they cannot replace the required in-person monitoring for these treatments. Spravato is never administered at home. You can review the safety and setting requirements at Spravato's official website. Although some providers prescribe off-label compounded ketamine for home use, this practice is not FDA-approved for psychiatric care, and the FDA warns of the risks of using it without on-site medical supervision. For immediate mental health support, contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, or dial 911 in a medical emergency.
While our current directory does not list clinics physically located in Hollywood, there are nearby regional options. Residents in Broward County often seek treatment at facilities in Fort Lauderdale, such as One Mind Wellness & Ketamine, or in Miami, which describe offering ketamine infusion services.
Intravenous (IV) ketamine is administered off-label for mental health conditions and is generally not covered by health insurance. Patients should expect to pay out-of-pocket for these infusions. Conversely, Spravato, an FDA-approved esketamine nasal spray, is more likely to be covered, though prior authorization is typically required.
A Spravato appointment generally takes over two hours. The FDA mandates at least two hours of in-office clinical observation immediately after the nasal spray is administered. This ensures that healthcare providers can monitor patients for potential side effects, such as dissociation or changes in blood pressure.
Clinic policies on transportation vary, but safety regulations mandate that you cannot drive yourself home. You must be discharged to a responsible adult. Many clinics strictly prohibit the use of rideshare services or taxis unless you are accompanied by a trusted friend or family member.
Because treatments require multiple visits over a few weeks, patients traveling from Hollywood to Miami or Fort Lauderdale should anticipate heavy traffic on I-95 or the Turnpike. Factoring in extra travel time ensures you do not miss appointments, which is crucial for maintaining the treatment schedule.
The FDA has warned against the risks of unmonitored at-home use of compounded ketamine, as it lacks approval for psychiatric care. Additionally, Spravato is strictly restricted to certified healthcare settings. Patients should rely on supervised, in-clinic administration to safely manage potential side effects and monitor progress.
Costs, coverage & aftercare
IV, IM and compounded ketamine for psychiatric conditions are off-label; many programs are self-pay. Ask about assessment, medication, administration, monitoring, therapy and maintenance charges separately. We do not assume a statewide price.
Spravato is FDA-approved esketamine, not the same as ketamine infusions. Coverage is not guaranteed. Check eligibility, prior authorization, network status, drug and visit charges, deductibles and copays with your insurer and clinic.
Spravato requires a certified healthcare setting and monitoring for at least two hours. Arrange transport home; do not drive until the next day after restful sleep. For other ketamine treatments, follow your clinician's instructions. Follow-up and maintenance depend on response and tolerability.
Ask who manages your medications, how your usual clinician will receive updates, and whom to contact between visits. Neither a shortage designation nor local depression statistics show that ketamine is appropriate or effective for you. Consult a licensed physician.
Use these questions when you call or book a consultation with any Hollywood provider.
Ask whether a physician, psychiatrist or anesthesiologist oversees each session and who you can reach afterward.
A good clinic reviews your history, medications, blood pressure and past treatments before recommending ketamine.
Look for continuous vital-sign monitoring and a calm, private recovery space.
IV infusions, Spravato® nasal spray, IM or sublingual options suit different goals and budgets.
Ask how the clinic coordinates with your therapist or offers integration support between sessions.
Request a written estimate for the first series and any maintenance sessions before you start.
